Does adding the extra letters and exclamation points make it seem like I care about football? Well I don't, but I love Colorado and I love spending time with my family!
Growing up in Vegas, Superbowl has always been my favorite holiday. (Did she say holiday?) Yup. We went to the same party at one of the big hotels every year. I'd get pom poms and they'd dress me up like a little cheerleader. I would get to sit in this huge private room and NOT watch the game on hundreds of TV's. Celebrities would be everywhere. But by far, no question, my favorite part of the party was the most amazing spread of food that covered every inch of the room. Pizza, hotdogs, a do-it-yourself-ice cream bar, Dove Bars, chicken fingers, candy bars, Cracker Jacks, licorice, wings, corn dogs, meatballs on a stick, mac and cheese pops, Italian subs, ribs, basically all the delicious bar food THAT I WAS ALLOWED TO EAT WITH MY HANDS; it was my own salty heaven.
My other favorite part about Superbowl was being able to spend the time with my dad. Sundays were always family days. He'd work so hard all the time, that Sundays were designated just for us. So my family and I would go to the movies and eat Chinese food. And often, I'd find myself in the TV room pretending to watch football with my dad, but really just wanting to be near him. Every once in a while the phone would ring and he'd tell me to get it. I'd write down some notes for him: NY-7, or this weekend it would look something like this: SEA+2 DEN-2. It was the over/under, his football bets, and I loved being his little bookie.
The last and final part of why Superbowl is my favorite American holiday is my little tray. I'd get to go around this big party carrying a little tray filled with popcorn and Dove Bars and Cracker Jacks, and get people whatever they needed, and EVERYONE new me. I had my little tip jar and a few times I racked in over $700 a game. (Cocktail waitress in training?) No, come on people, I was working on my balance. Speaking of balance. This year, I'm going to the same party, with all the same people I've been not watching the Superbowl with for 30 years. I will indulge…and I will enjoy every minute of it. As an adult I have learned to balance my life in terms of work, exercise, friends, family, love, and learned to eat all the delicious unhealthy stuff in moderation and blah, blah, blah...But this Sunday, when I have a hotdog in my right hand and a slice of pizza in the other, you better believe that I'm kickin' off my shoes, practicing my toe-ga, and grabbing a chicken finger with my foot. So to all my little yoginis who say that toe-ga makes no sense, and they don't see the importance of developing stronger feet (and preventing arthritis)…HA!
Ask them who they think is getting the last Dove Bar when her hands are full?
